Jin Yinji is a Singaporean actress born in South Korea, who recently ended her contract with Mediacorp.
In a farewell interview with Lianhe Zaobao, the 70 year-old veteran thespian spoke of her three-decade long career and the circumstances of her termination.
Jin exuded vigour and vitality during the interview, even miming being shot by a gun and twerking for the camera.
However, she got teary-eyed when recounting the contract talks with the company, where she was apparently been offered a new contract at one-third her current remuneration rate.
According to the Lianhe Zaobao report, the actress was disrespected in the process, which led to an injured pride.
"You could have talked to me nicely", Jin said. "There was no need to say, 'If I hire you to act, I might as well get a $50 an hour freelancer'."
The actress, who still had roles in three dramas, says she has never complained about the working hours and gets along well with other colleagues.
But she has since let go of the incident, with the aid of fellow actresses and friends such as Xiang Yun and Pan Ling Ling, who urged her to enjoy her sunset years.
She left Mediacorp three months ago. Actors Vivian Lai and Mark Lee have since asked Jin if she wants to sign with their production companies.
She is undecided but said: "I want to act till the audience doesn't want to watch me any more."
She also looks forward to taking care of her grandchild and advised younger ones that acting is not a long-term career.
