Youths ride e-scooters on Yishun roads at night

Traffic rules are just suggestions.

The Land Transport Authority's team of Active Mobility Enforcement Officers (AMEOs) have their work cut out for them.

While a lot of the team's enforcement efforts have been carried out in the light of day, it is only at night do the real deals come out to play.

This video taken at the junction outside Yishun MRT station on April 30 at around 11.45pm shows the use of personal mobility devices on the road when there is no one enforcing the law:

Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan told Parliament on Jan. 9 that there are more than 600 volunteers and 16 enforcement officers from the LTA involved in guarding against errant cyclists and users of PMDs.

The Active Mobility Act (AMA) has since been passed in Parliament on Jan. 11.

LTA now has the power to appoint volunteers under the Active Mobility Patrol Scheme as public path wardens.

The volunteers will not have powers to seize or arrest, but will have limited enforcement powers such as to obtain personal particulars of individuals suspected of committing an offence.

They will carry out regular patrols to educate the public on safe practices on public paths and deter reckless behaviour.

Guess we'll be seeing more of them lurking around.
