For many of us, Milo is something we've all grown up with from young.
So it hits us doubly hard when for some reason, it goes wrong.
In a post on Saturday, May 27, one Joanna Ong took to Facebook alleging that the packet Milo drinks she had purchased from NTUC for her daughter were spoilt.
The Milo in the pack, she said, tasted bitter and sour although the expiry date on the packaging is listed as January 2018. Also, in pictures added to her post, there appeared to be yellow curd-looking bits floating at the surface of the drink where she cut the top of the carton open.
Here's her post:
In case you can't see the post, here's the text for your convenience:
"On Thursday I bought 4 packs of small pack milo from ntuc for Olivia. She took a pack to drink yesterday, and told me it tasted bitter and sour. I gave it a tried and it really tasted sour and disgusting, I decided to cut open the pack and this is what I found inside.
This is the first time we have encounter such issue with pack drink, and we really never expect it to be with milo.
Be careful when you give your little one packaging drink.
Posted another photo with batch number and expiry date.
MILO Singapore have contacted me yesterday, they will investigate the batch of milo.
Update on 30 May
Note: for those who have the similar issue, please do not throw the pack away, have it send over or have milo people to collect it for their laboratory research."
Milo responds
On Tuesday, Ong published an update to her Facebook page, reproducing the response sent to her by Milo:
"Hi all. This is what MILO Singapore have responded.
Hi Joanna,
We spoke earlier today. Once again, we are deeply sorry to hear about your experience concerning packet MILO. Unfortunately, we could not conduct an analysis of the affected product as we were unable to retrieve the sample. We have however taken the following immediate steps:
1) We reviewed all records of the same manufacturing batch.
2) We purchased and evaluated MILO of the same batch code from retail outlets.
Our investigations to date have found that that there were no manufacturing issues with the products. Nevertheless, please note that finished products may be affected by unfavorable storage and transport conditions.
Please be assured that we manufacture our products in line with stringent hygiene, quality and safety standards at all stages of production.
We appreciate your feedback because consumer safety and product quality are top priorities for us at Nestle.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Lastly, the manger will be paying my family a visit later in the evening time."
Guess it's slightly tougher for them to act when they aren't able to test the original "spoilt" product.
But if by chance you might have a similar experience with your packet Milo, please save the bad pack and contact Milo so they can run tests on it — for the betterment of all your fellow Milo fans.
