Here's how to unsend a sent Gmail email

If only they have it for texts too.

If you're prone to sending snide, sarcastic emails that you'd regret later, here's a useful trick to learn: How to unsend emails in gmail.

This means the email you just clicked "Send" never reaches your recipient's inbox.

This function is not the same as a recall, which only announces that the previous email is void without deleting it from the recipient's inbox and the recipient is still able to read it.

Here's how to do it:

1) Click on the gear button on the top right hand corner and choose "Settings".

2) Look for "Undo Send" under the General tab (which is the first tab):

You can choose from a recall period of five to 30 seconds after you click send.

Here's an example of testing it out by sending an email to my boss:

3) Right after you click send, a bar will appear on top of the screen with an "Undo" option.

Clicking "Undo" will ensure that the email never reaches its intended recipient (in this case, my boss). The email will appear again as it was before being sent:

Disaster averted. Hurray.
