There's a new nature park in Upper Thomson you can go to for a fun, free day out

Make a weekend date with the Windsor Nature Park's sub-canopy walks and walk among the trees.

Located off Venus Drive in Upper Thomson, the Windsor Nature Park is the sixth, and newest, nature park in Singapore.

There, you'll get to explore a series of family-friendly boardwalks and trails, encounter rare native plants as well as a marsh habitat and freshwater streams.

Besides providing a new recreational site for people, the 75-hectare green space also acts as a green buffer for the Central Catchment Nature Reserve — providing a nifty ecological link between the Lower Peirce and MacRitchie Reservoir Parks.

Here are some of the key things to check out there:

Here, you can find newly discovered native forest plants and plants named after Singapore, such as the Singapore Ginger (Zingiber singapurense):

and the Singapore Durian (Durio singaporensis):

This is the first sub-canopy walk in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, which connects to the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk.

Named after the birds with long forked tails, you might get to see one of them, like this Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, if you are lucky:

Images from yesterday morning's official opening of Windsor Nature Park. The Hanguana Trail is named after Hanguana, a genus of flowering herbs that typically grow in the shade of tropical forests in Southeast Asia. Four species of Hanguana are native to Singapore's forests, and of these four, three were only discovered in recent years. Two species, Hanguana rubinea and Hanguana neglecta, along with many other native plants, have been planted along the Hanguana Trail. #WindsorNaturePark #VenusLoop #CentralCatchmentNatureReserve #CCNR #Singapore #NParksBuzz #exploreSG #exploreSingapore #SGIG #visitsingapore #yoursingapore
