Four suspected drug offenders arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning, March 1, could all face the death penalty if the amount of pure heroin trafficked exceeds 15g.

This was after a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation took place at an industrial building in Yishun, a perfectly pleasant place in Singapore.

Two of the offenders were Singaporean men aged 29 and 52. The younger man is the associate of the older man, a suspected drug trafficker.

The other pair of offenders are Malaysians, a 45-year-old woman and 48-year-old man.

A total of 970g of heroin with a street value of more than S$68,000 was seized from the Singaporean duo, while more than S$8,000 cash was recovered from the Malaysians.

CNB officers were deployed to conduct their sting operation around the industrial building at 4.20am in the morning.

The Malaysians first arrived on a motorcycle. They parked and left the vehicle.

At around 6am, the Singaporean duo arrived in a car and the 52-year-old approached the motorcycle. They then left in the same car.

The Singaporeans were subsequently arrested in the car along Ubi Avenue 2, where two big packets of heroin weighing 920g were found in the vehicle.

A search of the 52-year-old's apartment uncovered another 48g of heroin.

The Malaysians were simultaneously apprehended in the industrial building.

Investigations into the drug activities of all suspects are ongoing.

The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g.
