Fans of durian rejoice -- Thailand might be bringing the King of Fruits to the candy stores very soon, if all goes according to plan.
Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul is in talks with Nestlé Thailand to develop a series of Kit Kat flavours unique to Thailand in a bid to increase tourist spending by about 10%.
Fans of the fruit are already taking to the news with as much fervour as the fruit's (in)famous pungent odour -- here's a mock up of what the Durian flavoured Kit Kat would probably look like:
Besides the Durian, Thailand is also looking into adapting other local flavours such as Tamarind and Mangosteen. In case you are wondering, Tamarind is what gives our Assam curry its sour kick.
Adapting seasonal/ local flavours for Kit Kat is not a new thing.
Japan has been doing it for some time with varying degrees of success, spawning a magical world of regional and limited edition Kit Kats such as the Japanese Sake Kit Kat, the Bake ‘N Tasty Mini Kit Kats Custard Pudding (which require actual baking), and more recently, the Kit Kat Sushi.
Here's hoping plans for the Durian Kit Kat go ahead -- it is definitely going to pack a punch.
