Things to do this Christmas season so your girlfriend won't complain

Who says there's nothing to do in Singapore?

While Christmas Day traditionally marks the birth of Jesus Christ, the holiday now veers more towards the cultural rather than the religious, and with a good portion of us romanticising it too.

If you're lucky enough, you'll get invited to enough house parties that you'll be able get away with not planning anything with your better half.

If not, here's a list of 'activities' to check out so nobody turns green, whether from the effort of planning or the lack of it:

1. Christmas pop-up store "Unwrapped"

An annual affair, this year's exhibition/store features a French linen collection Porcelain’ in collaboration with French artists Un Rendez-Vous Francais (no, we can't pronounce it either), among jewellery, home textiles, tableware, and tea gift sets. If you are a sufficiently artsy couple, this might just be your thing.

Word of warning: this looks reasonably atas, so venture forth with either deep pockets or deep prayers.

Where: Miajia Gallery, 190 Bukit Timah Road

When: Dec. 9 - Jan. 14

Monday - Friday, 10am - 6pm

Saturday, 12 - 5pm

Closed on Sundays and Public Holidays

2. "The Wild Arctic" photography exhibition by Karim Sahai

In a similarly artistic vein, there's also a wild arctic photography exhibition by Karim Sahai, an award-winning Nature and Wildlife Photographer whose digital visual effects credits include The Lord Of The Rings & Hobbit trilogies, Avatar, and The Avengers.

Expect stunning images of northern wildlife, combined with skilful digital manipulation that makes Sahai so exceptional at what he does.

Where: The Fullerton Hotel, East Garden Foyer, 1 Fullerton Road

When: Dec. 8 - Jan. 17

3. Santa’s All-Star Christmas at Universal Studios Singapore

From now till Jan. 2, Universal Studios Singapore (USS) will be decked out in festive decorations, with park hours and rides extended to 9/10pm.

Look out for santa's village, live shows put up by Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas-themed characters and fireworks, and even snowfall in designated zones.

Where: Universal Studios Singapore, 8 Sentosa Gateway

When: Dec. 1 - Jan. 2

5. S.E.A. Aquarium’s Merry Fishmas

A myriad of activities will be available, including story-telling by Mrs. Santa, making your own Fishmas ornament, catching Scuba Santa and Elf feeding the fish, as well as special appearances by Mr and Mrs Santa, Mai the Manta Mascot, and even Pikachu.

Where: S.E.A. Aquarium, 8 Sentosa Gateway, Resorts World Sentosa

When: Dec. 1/17 (depending on activity) - Jan. 2

6. Enjoy "winter" in the tropics

Ok, it is not really winter with our 33 degree weather, but you could still soak up the Christmas-y atmosphere at Gardens By The Bay in two ways -- Merry Medley at the Flower Dome, or Christmas Wonderland at the Supertree Grove.

When: Now til Jan. 1

7. Have some cake

End the night with some Christmas cakes (these are from Breadtalk and O' Coffee Club respectively) to sweeten the deal (although this might be applicable any other night).
