The Singapore national football team has fallen to its second-worst-ever ranking in history, according to the FIFA rankings which were released on Thursday, Dec. 22.
The Lions, who were ranked 162nd just last month, fell three spots to 165th.
This is below the Philippines (120), Thailand (126), Vietnam (134), Myanmar (159) and Malaysia (162).
However, Singapore beat Laos, which is ranked 167th.
There are a total of 205 countries Fifa ranks. The worst Singapore has ever fallen was 171.
This tumbling down the rankings phenomenon is due to a series of poor results consecutively.
In November 2016, Singapore crashed out of the group stages of the Asean Football Federation's Suzuki Cup for the second tournament running.
This was after beating Cambodia 1-0 at home in an international friendly in preparation for the Suzuki Cup.
The Lions began their Suzuki Cup campaign by holding co-hosts Philippines to a 0-0 draw in their opening group game.
After that, they lost to Thailand by a single goal.
Singapore then lost 2-1 to Indonesia.
The one draw and two defeats results was Singapore's worst showing in the biennial regional tournament since it started in 1996 -- and having only scored one goal.
Asean countries Fifa rankings:
120 - The Philippines
126 - Thailand
134 - Vietnam
159 - Myanmar
161 - Malaysia
165 - Singapore
167 - Laos
171 - Indonesia
173 - Cambodia
190 - Brunei
