This festive season, if you are inclined to buy a pet for yourself or just to give away for the sake of festivities, please don't.
A video on pet abandonment by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) put out on Dec. 15 last year is trending again.
This is the only truly viral video put out by a Singapore public agency as it has been viewed 4.3 million times and counting the past 12 months, mainly because it is straightforward and true:
This is essentially how the story goes:
1. Man buys puppy. Puppy cute.
2. Man and puppy have a lot of fun.
3. Man and puppy BFF.
4. However, man spends time on social media. Neglects puppy-turned-dog.
5. Man then Netflix and chill.
6. Dog not invited.
7. Nine months later.
8. Man realises he married a witch.
9. Man talks to bae because annulment or divorce too costly to his social standing.
10. Between bae and dog, man chooses bae. Man drives dog to the woods.
11. Leaves dog there.
12. Dog eats out of the litter.
13. Over time, dog sad.
14. Dog very sad.
15. The end.
Moral of the story? People who abandon their pets also make poor choices in who they marry.
A typical cautionary Singaporean tale.
