It didn't even realise it was free when it was freed.

A young pangolin got lost in Nanyang Technological University when it wandered into a common room at Hall of Residence 7 on Tuesday morning, Nov. 22.

The wild mammal was huddled against the wall of the room when rescuers from the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Acres) turned up slightly before 10am after being alerted by students.

The pangolin was suspected to have burrowed through one of the two holes in the door.

Acres staff put the pangolin into a carrier to transport it back to the forest.

They took it to a nearby forest just 30 metres away to be released, proving that NTU is truly forested.

About 20 metres into the forest, which had a number of fallen tree trunks that contained termite and ants for the pangolin to feast on, the Acres staff decided to release it.

But when the carrier door was open, the pangolin was faced in the opposite direction.

It didn't know it was time to leave.

The silly pangolin had to be manually turned around for it to get out.

It took the pangolin a while to figure it was free.

This is the second pangolin rescue Acres has conducted in NTU this year.

The National Parks Board (NParks) estimates that there are more than 100 wild pangolins here.

The nocturnal animal found in Singapore is the Sunda pangolin, one of eight species found worldwide.

Even though NTU is forested, Acres managed to live stream their rescue over Facebook in two videos:
