The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has confiscated 20 electric scooters after their users were caught riding on the road.

This is LTA's Facebook post on Monday, Nov. 7:

It is against the law for personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as e-scooters and hoverboards to travel on the roads.

The LTA said it has stepped up enforcement measures with 560 of such operations conducted since May. Action will be taken against cyclists and users of personal mobility devices found riding recklessly.

Between January and September, more than 1,400 notices were issued to users of non-compliant electric bicycles.

An additional 860 advisories were issued to cyclists, e-bicycle riders and users of personal mobility devices caught riding in an unsafe manner on footpaths and cycling paths.

Some of these devices can go as fast as 70kmh, endangering themselves as well as other road users, the LTA said.
