Every day, trolleys are wheeled away into HDB estates and then abandoned at void decks.
This phenomenon costs supermarket chain FairPrice over S$150,000 annually to recover and repair these orphaned trolleys.
Although signs have been put up warning that removing trolleys from supermarket premises is tantamount to theft, many shoppers have decided that their convenience supersedes being a criminal.
Since there hasn't been any news of trolley bandits being arrested for their crimes, someone has taken to online vigilantism by posting photographs of people wheeling trolleys away from supermarkets on the aptly named Stolen NTUC Trolley Facebook page.
The page is filled with stealthily taken shots of trolleys being kidnapped:
It also has photographs of abandoned trolleys awaiting rescue:
The person behind this page may not be the hero we want right now, but sure is the one we need.
FairPrice should send some vouchers to him/ her or make him/ her an honorary lifetime member.
