Is Singapore part of China? No, it was part of Michigan.

Real Singapore has currently outlived Singapore (US version) by about a decade.

"There was a time when people said

That Singapore is in Michigan, but we were."

As it's Halloween today, the United States Embassy in Singapore educated us about a "Ghost Town" named Singapore.

Founded in the 1836 by New York land speculators, Singapore (US version) aimed to rival Chicago and Milwaukee as a lake port (sounds familiar!).

According to Wikipedia, the town boasted of three sawmills, two hotels, several general stores, a renowned bank, and was home to Michigan's first schoolhouse.

Unfortunately, the town was buried by shifting sand dunes in the 1870s and never resettled.

Curious where Singapore (US version) was located?

It is located north of a town call Saugatuck on the banks of Lake Michigan.

Singapore (US version) still lives today, in the name of the Singapore Yacht Club.

It is located at one end of the town, as you can seen from Google Maps.
