Singaporeans' love affair with Japanese food soared to a new high this April, when the first BAKE cheese tart store opened in ION Orchard to close to three-hour long queues.
The Japanese cheese tart from Hokkaido had Singaporeans reportedly queueing for two hours even before the flagship store opened for business.
The last time Singaporeans were willing to queue this long for food was probably for frozen yogurt chain Llao Llao.
And come Oct. 17, it won't be a surprise to see Singaporeans queueing up again at BAKE Cheese Tart's second outlet at Westgate.
The opening of the second outlet comes off the back of the successful first outlet in ION Orchard, which sold a whopping 6,000 tarts every day during peak periods.
That equates to about 8 tarts sold per minute.
The cheese tarts -- described as crumbly on the outside, filled with a cheese mousse that is not cloyingly sweet -- are produced in Hokkaido and then flown to Singapore, before being freshly baked in store for customers here.
The company has a total of 9 stores in Asia and 14 in Japan; in Hong Kong, Seoul and Bangkok, customers stay in line for hours to get their hands on the prized tarts as well.
For the first week only, the first 50 customers to purchase 12 tarts each day at the new outlet will receive an exclusive BAKE tote bag.
The tarts go for $3.50 apiece and $19.50 for a box of six.
Go forth and queue.
