Think of Tengah and this comes to mind.

But if HDB’s vision for Tengah is anything to go by, the town is going to look a whole lot more liveable.
Okay, back up.
Tengah Town is not Tengah airbase. Not even close.

In fact, it’s nearer to Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok and Jurong West towns.
In April this year, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong announced in Parliament that plans for a new “Forest Town” in the west region of Singapore were in the works.
This is what the “Forest Town” will look like:
When you see it...

Okay, I digress.
This 700-hectare site is just smaller than Bishan and will accommodate an estimated 42,000 new homes.
1. Eco-corridors
The first question you should ask is: What is an eco-corridor? Because this is also an eco-corridor:

Now, remember the photo above and multiply it by a million times: you will get a 100-metre wide forest corridor that will connect your BTO flat to some of the existing nature reserves within the central catchment area.
Long story short, it’s like MacRitchie without the traveling.
2. Waterfront living
Look this ain’t no longkang waterfront living like *coughs* Punggol *coughs*. This is Bedok reservoir territory.
Can kayak also. Seems like something the Bishan 10 would approve.
3. So. Much. Space.
This picture takes the cake.
Wide enough for EVERYONE. Pedestrians, old folks, toddlers, serious runners, trees, recreational joggers, more trees, cyclists, you name it, Tengah Town has a space for it.
It’s not 700 hectares for nothing.
Also if you are a hardcore cyclist, with Tengah Town’s carefully-planned mobility infrastructure, you will no longer feel like driving a car again.
Check this out. Sci-fi flick anyone?
In support of Singapore’s move towards a car-lite and people-friendly environment, Tengah Town will even feature the first “car-free” HDB town centre in Singapore. The roads are planned to run beneath the town centre, which means you can worry less about cars and concern yourself with more rampant baby prams.
4. You can finally be a farmer
Closet vegetable/legume (yes, there’s a difference) enthusiasts and subsistence farming geeks, this one’s for you. Community gardening and urban farming spaces will form a distinctive feature of the neighbourhoods in Tengah Town. Your dreams of growing kangkong and carrots in your own backyard may finally be realised.
5. Step aside, Gardens by the Bay. This is your private garden.
Imagine a forest park as your town centre, in place of the cookie-cutter shopping malls or bus interchange. A refreshing change, and another first for a HDB estate.

Even the MRT line serving it looks different.
Want to make Tengah Town your home? Alas, enjoy the photos and wait, we must - for there is no news yet regarding projected completion dates.
Guess good things are worth the wait?
