The Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention 2016 is officially over, and from the thousands of visitors over the weekend, many of them had dressed up as their favourite muses.
It's not easy getting into costume. Cosplayers often have to deal with the costs, and put in all that effort it takes to look just like the character - then the attention, and the throngs of cameramen followed by a sea of flashes - hard work to let fantasy come to life. Here are 7 photos featuring these cosplayers and their stories.
1) Yule 16, Arisu, 17, Students
The pair are cosplaying the very popular Rem and Ram from the anime series Re:Zero - starting life in another world- which has gotten an immense following this year. The two came to STGCC for the first time, and Yule and Arisu find the twin maids rather cute together, the epitome of sweet sisterhood.
2) Ruica Yap, 17, Shichiya, 20, Kuro Yue, 19, students
While Ruica has only been here a second time, Shichiya and Kuro are well seasoned and now they cosplay together as the three team leaders of Pokemon Go. Ruica, in blue, likes Blanche for her level-headedness; Shichiya, in white and red is passionate about Candela's fiery personality; and Kuro simply quips,"it was just random."
Cue a sarcastic Ruica who comments " You probably thought Spark was cute!"
No wonder they're cosplaying as their respective characters.
3) Andrew Unwin, 21, Graphic Designer, Stephanie Priscilla, 24, Illustrator
Andrew and Stephanie were one of the cutest cosplay pairs of the day. Both of them had already been coming to STGCC for four years in a row, but it's a second and first outing respectively for the both of them. Cosplaying the kooky Wirt and Gregory from the animated short series Over the Garden Wall, they adored how fun it was to cosplay the two of them. The two were also animation students and got really into the series, they decided to cosplay the two.
4) Syed, Event Coordinator, 41, and Wilson, 5
The father son duo were so adorable. Wilson is only 5 years old, tottering after his father as his mini-me. Syed and his son are cosplaying Deathstroke, from the Arrow and Teen Titans series. Syed's love for Deathstroke came from his inclination to villain-type characters. Deathstroke came across to him, naturally, as a really badass role model.
As for Wilson? In Syed's words : "He saw me dressing up for an event, and he said 'I want to dress like you'. I decided to make one for him. It’s all from scratch."
5) Yvonne Ng, 29, Patient Service Associate.
It's not surprising to know why she chose Aerith from Final Fantasy 7 - Yvonne is actually a patient service associate. Aerith definitely embodies qualities that Yvonne looks up to, as a sweet person and a healer. Her flowers are freshly bought, by the way!
6) Xin Yi "Dovah", 23, IT Solution Sales
Heroes never die! Xin Yi is cosplaying Mercy from Overwatch. She likes her design, and she feels an affinity for the angel-like character who heals fellow comrades in-game.
7) Khymichi, flight attendant, 27 and Rynx, 25, preschool teacher
Both of them have been cosplaying for a few years now for STGCC. You might have seen others cosplaying the Suicide Squad version of Harley Quinn, but these two girls rock the version of their characters from New 52. Khymichi says that they really liked the characters in their original form, but they wanted to try this specific design. Rynx also highlights how Ivy is really sexy and confident, and that’s really empowering.
