Having won Singapore’s first gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games on Saturday, Sept. 10 morning, Yip Pin Xiu has one more event to go.
On Friday, Sept. 16, at around 6.50am Singapore time, Yip will compete in the 50m backstroke S2 event.
For the record, the 24-year-old shattered two world records in a single race to claim Singapore's first Gold of the 2016 Games in the 100m backstroke S2 event with a timing of 2min 7.09sec.
This was so as she completed her 50m backstroke in that with a record-breaking split timing of 59.38s.
Yip's Saturday victory is her second Paralympic Gold medal, having won her first in the women’s 50m backstroke event at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
She missed out on the medals in London 2012 and is looking to make up for lost time.
The Paralympian, who was born with muscle dystrophy and a nerve condition that impairs her eyesight, started swimming at the age of five to improve her health.
She remains the only local swimmer to have been medalled at the Paralympics.
Another Singaporean swimmer
Yip's team mate, Theresa Goh is the only other Singaporean swimmer involved in Rio.
Goh will be competing in the 100m breaststroke SB4 heats on Sunday night, at about 10.25pm Singapore time.
This would be Goh's pet event and the second of four events.
This is the swimming duo's schedule:
