Workers’ Party National Day 2016 video is a history infotainment with kids

Kids sound so cute when they talk about political stuff.

Producing an emotive and inspirational National Day video has become a Workers' Party (WP) tradition over the past few years.

This year, the WP becomes a history teacher as it interviewed 12 young Singaporeans between the ages of six and 18 years old on the following three "ancient" items:

1. Five Stones

2. Ting Kat

3. Nokia handphone

Things somewhat took a political turn (if you are viewing it from a political lens) at the end when the interviewer (WP's 2016 candidate Cheryl Loh) asked the kids about their wish for Singapore.

Anyway, Loh concluded the video with these uplifting words about Singapore's future:

"As we listened to the wishes of these kids and young adults, be it the tree house or job opportunities. It is not hard to see the hope in their eyes to inherit what we have -- a stable and peaceful country we call home. This National Day, we would like everyone to carry on their hopes to build on their strong foundation of what our pioneers have given us and to continue creating a better future. Not just for you, not just for me. But for them. Our future of Singapore."

Now, let's juxtapose Loh's words with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's National Day Message yesterday:

"It is our shared resolve to tackle challenges together that determines whether we succeed, and whether our children have a brighter future...

It was our forefathers’ determination to be 'one united people, regardless of race, language or religion', that drove them to transform Singapore over the last 50 years. This same resolve will carry us through the next 50.

This National Day, I hope each of us will reflect on what this unity means... Let us renew our commitment to Singapore and to one another. This is where our families and friends live. This is where our future and hopes are. They are precious to us. They are worth defending with our lives."

We cannot help but notice that the hopes and aspirations of our two main political parties -- PAP and WP -- for Singapore are not as different as everyone made them out to be.
