Channel News Asia published an article on Aug. 25, on how Norway had introduced compulsory military service for women.
Some of the women who are conscripted also bunk in mixed dorms.
While it is not a 50/50 split, almost one-third of the military conscripts for Norway this summer will be female.
This piece of news has for some reason resonated with Singaporean men.
Some got straight to the point.
Others got straight to the point, then deviated, then capslocked everything.
One looked to the past to provide credibility.
A few looked to AWARE instead.
Differences
While this mad push for gender equality is opportunistic all well and good, there are a few distinctions to be made between the Norway model and Singapore's own conscription style.
Despite the term conscription, Norway's military call-ups offer far more flexibility than our own.
According to the article, less than one-sixth of an available batch are called up.
Reaction
While Singapore will most probably not see female conscription anytime in the near future, Singaporean women did not seem to shy away from the possibility.
