A reporter for the Chicago Tribune stumbled upon a recipe that apparently may be the secret 11 herbs and spices for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The reporter interviewed 67-year-old Joe Ledington, a nephew of Harland David Sanders, more popularly known as Colonel Sanders. While Ledington was going through a photograph album, he shared a handwritten recipe list found on the back of a photograph. Ledington said it was the recipe left by Colonel Sanders. Ledington said that he helped the Colonel mix the herbs and spices when he was 10 years old.
However, Ledington later sounded like he was not sure if the recipe was indeed the fabled secret recipe. He also said the handwriting did not belong to Colonel Sanders.
Anyway, here's what was written in the list:
11 Spices - Mix With 2 Cups White Fl.
1) 2/3 T.S Salt
2) 1/2 Ts Thyme
3) 1/2 Ts Basil
4) 1/3 Ts Origino
5) 1 Ts Celery Salt
6) 1 Ts Black Pepper
7) 1 Ts Dried Mustard
8) 4 Ts Paprika
9) 2 Ts Garlic Salt
10) 1 Ts Ground Ginger
11) 3 Ts White Pepper
KFC Corp was approached for comment on the authenticity of the recipe and told the Chicago Tribune that "lots of people through the years have claimed to discover or figure out the secret recipe, but no one's ever been right."
