ION Orchard is suddenly a PokeStop in S'pore

Marketing, ladies and gentlemen, marketing.

Barely a few hours after Pokémon Go launched in Singapore on Aug. 6, 2016, ION Orchard has become the first PokeStop here.

A PokeStop is a landmark or place of interest where players get to “catch” virtual Pokemon that are attracted by lures released at these locations.

Lures can be purchased by anyone, and in this case, ION Orchard most probably did.

Because from Aug. 6 to 21, ION Orchard will be releasing hundreds of Lures during designated hours as part of Pokemon Go @ ION Orchard, a marketing campaign to draw Pokemon players.

The #IONFoodieTravels campaign, launched in March offering exclusive gastronomic deals, has been specially extended for the Pokemon hunting season. In this extension of #IONFoodieTravels, diners enjoy three new exclusive 1-for-1 offers from PUTIEN, Savour Art and TWG Tea Salon and Boutique redeemable via the ION Orchard mobile app. The #IONFoodieTravels campaign, launched in March offering exclusive gastronomic deals, has been specially extended for the Pokemon hunting season. The designated hours is meant to attract large numbers of Pokemon to the mall and turn it into a hot spot.

Players in the vicinity will then receive an in-game alert and can go to the location to capture their desired Pokemon -- all part of how augmented reality can have real-world effects on boosting businesses.

Aspiring Pokemon Go players will be lured by an abundance of Pokemon to catch when the Lures are released.

Pokemon Go @ ION Orchard is also offering shopping rewards for ION members and stores are offering more rewards to Pokemon Go players during the Pokemon hunting season.

We hope the area around ION does not attract that many shitty Pokemon.

Or maybe we do.
