Mrs Sheeba John found herself in a bit of a situation when she found out that her daughter had forgotten to return 2 books to the Library.
She promptly returned them, accruing a $31.42 (Yes, she wrote the exact sum) in overdue fines.
Now, considering that the late sum is $0.15 per book per day, that means she was late by over 3 months.
After hearing her side of the story, the National Library Board(NLB) decided to cap the fee at $25. All good, no fuss right?
Nope, ST forum letter.
Letter
After detailing her $25 traumatic experience, Sheeba John got to the crux of her letter.
Now, my children and I have a phobia of borrowing books from public libraries.
I hope the authorities will look into this matter and develop a proper system for helping library users.
Disclaimer
Now before handing it over to the Internet, just to give the writer the benefit of the doubt, she might very well have financial difficulties that might warrant the term phobia being used.
It might not justify a letter, but it is at least something. Ok, now the Internet's response.
The Internet Responds
There was no sympathy from Reddit Singapore, with a prevailing theme being "need letter meh?".
Because this isn't exactly unique.
No one really blamed NLB, with some even praising their actions.
And others developing phobias of their own.
But the best response was by Singapore's very own Mr Brown, who wrote this incisive post.
Return your books on time.
