You know how everyone's complaining about how hot the weather is nowadays?

Now imagine you are stuck inside a stuffy car, in a car park and you have on an impossibly thick fur-coat.

That was the situation faced by a German Shepherd when it was locked in a Toyota Fortuner earlier today at The Verge's 3rd floor carpark.

Here was the Facebook post from a concerned passerby, Vikna Bhai.

Good afternoon everyone. This afternoon I went to the verge to get some groceries. After my shopping when I got back to the car park to get my car I saw a German Shepherd locked up in Toyota Fortuner SFY1152K. There was a note on the car by a frustrated passerby. The weather was so hot today and this uncivilised owner of this poor shepherd locked him in the car without any water. Will he do this to his child or parents?

Just because the dog can't speak you did this? If you don't even know how will the dog suffer in such humid weather and inside a closed vehicle you definitely don't have the rights to own a dog. I waited for about 20 minutes but the owner didn't turn up so I had to leave. I hope the authorities will teach the owner of the poor shepherd a lesson.

There are two things to take note of in that post.

1. According to Vikna, he waited for around 20 minutes before having to leave.

2. Someone had already left a note there.

The story, unfortunately, gets even worse. See, the person, Justyn Kang, who left the note on the car had also posted a Facebook post lamenting the actions of the dog owner.

And according to Kang who contacted Mothership.sg, the dog wasn't just stuck in the car for 20 minutes, in all likelihood, it was trapped for nearly 90 minutes, perhaps even longer.

Here's what Kang wrote to Mothership.sg:

Hi, location at the verge shopping center carpark at the 3rd floor. When I reached work about 330pm on the 3/7(today) I notice a dog popping his head up inside of a locked car (SFY 1152K) the Windows were rolled down about half and inch. Called my colleague down and we left a note.

And went for lunch and when we came back from lunch we went to see if he was still there and true enough the owner just came sitting in the car without starting it. Which was about 450pm. We approached the owner and she was unrepentant about leaving the dog there, saying she just went down to buy some soap for awhile.

Quote "I left the Windows only slightly open to protect my dog for stupid people like you". I told her that what she did was ridiculous. And she said: "people like you are ridiculous". The matter is being reported to AVA. As a friend from spca says they can't track license plates.

A real danger

According to studies, 'the temperature inside a car can reach higher than 50°C after only five minutes when the temperature outside is 32.5°C'.

So the threat is definitely real, and dogs have died before due to being locked inside a car for a few hours.
