This, ladies and gentlemen, is a time-lapse video of Singapore to end all time-lapse videos of Singapore:
Titled The Lion City II - Majulah, it is the brainchild of Keith Loutit.
This is the same guy who made The Lion City three years ago, where the physical surroundings of Singapore transiting through time were captured on camera to look as if it was shot using stop-motion animation technique and feel almost like a simulation of a miniature scene.
The video description of his latest work, however, aims to show the type of changes to Singapore's physical environment that often goes undocumented as they are too gradual to notice:
When we pass by landscapes they appear fixed in time, but they change around us constantly. The idea behind this film to reveal this change by returning to the same camera positions over the years.
More than three years in the making
According to Loutit, for The Lion City II - Majulah, the first shot was taken in January, 2013.
This was followed by location scouting and experimentation from January to May 2013.
The core filming for the video was done over three years from June 2013 to June 2016.
The most visited landscape in the video was the Ghim Moh HDB demolition site (at the 1min 40sec mark), which was shot 43 times.
Loutit told Mothership.sg:
All my films are designed to help people see their surroundings with fresh eyes, as if for the first time. In this case, I focused on perception of time. It's like the elephant and the shrew that both co-exist, but are unaware of each other because they perceive time so differently. When we travel past landscapes we notice major changes, but are unaware of the constant progression around us.
Mind blowing.
