A certain Singaporean, Bryan Lim, has found internet fame, and police scrutiny, within the span of a single afternoon — this thanks to a comment he posted that appears to show his desire to "open fire" on LGBTs and/or their sympathisers:
In case you haven't already been following this story, here's the rundown:
- Lim posted the above comment in response to this Facebook post on a conservative group called "We Are Against Pinkdot in Singapore" on June 4.
- Someone filed a police report against him, and the cops confirmed they are investigating it.
- Lim left comments online saying his comment was taken "out of context" and he intended to open fire "in debate" against "Bloomberg and foreign intervention in local matters".
Separately, it was discovered that Lim is an "instructional designer" and a "performance consultant" in Canon's organisation and training development department, according to his LinkedIn page, and so his employer was informed, likely around the same time as the police.
The photography equipment giant since responded in a Facebook post:
Here's what they posted, in case you can't see the Facebook post:
We appreciate your efforts in bringing the matter of Bryan Lim’s comments to our attention. At Canon Singapore, we live by our philosophy of Kyosei – which we define as "all people, regardless of race, religion, or culture, harmoniously living and working together for the common good." As such, we do not condone violence in any form. Thus, we take this issue seriously and are looking into this matter.
They've stopped short of saying whether or not they are going to take any action against Lim, though.
Canon's response to the rapidly-unfolding saga comes after almost 20 people posted about Lim directly to their Facebook timeline, with others mentioning them in posts shared to their own Facebook pages.
We'll keep you posted on any developments that may unfold.
