Last year, we introduced you to former aesthetic doctor Siew Tuck Wah:

In case you haven't heard of him, he's quite a guy — after years as a prominent player in the cosmetic medicine scene, he decided to quit his prestigious-looking job and work on saving Singapore's stray dogs full-time as the president of Save Our Street Dogs.

As recently as on Sunday, Siew shared news about a badly-wounded puppy whom they rescued and have seen nursed back to health:

But now, Siew has upped his own ante — on April 30, he rescued his very first fish.

In a Facebook post, he said the live red tilapia was "calling out to" him, so he picked it up, got it tagged and carried it out of NTUC complete with water in the bag for $6.

(Now usually, people who buy live fish would have them killed and gutted before bringing them home, so naturally this was rather strange for most other people at the supermarket to witness.)

"Everyone thought I was mad — cashier, staff, shoppers and family included," he wrote.

He then placed it in his home freshwater fish tank, where he houses at least one other parrotfish. He posted pictures of the tilapia, saying he spotted severe tail and fin rot:

He also described the fish as having a "sick grey colour".

A week of his tender loving care later, though, Siew showed new photos of the fish looking far better:

And redder too. Here's a video of the happy guy swimming about:

So the moral of Siew's story is: buy your aquarium fish from NTUC for cheap.

"But keep them away from your crazy-eyed dog:"
