On May 9, 2016, a six-week-old pup from the Marina otter family, was alone at its family den, also known as a holt.
It slipped and fell into a canal when it was looking for its parents and siblings.
It was subsequently rescued by a retiree and put back in its holt. The OtterWatch group was informed.
However, after 10 hours of monitoring and realising its family was nowhere in sight, the little pup was rescued and transferred to the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) to be nursed by a team of vets.
The pup was named ZooToby.
ZooToby was fed the next few days and dewormed.
The pup was assessed to be alright and an attempt to re-introduce it to its family was made on May 19, 2016.
The re-introduction was led by Sivasothi N. together with the Otter Working Group. This group is made up of three organisations, National Parks Board (NParks), Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) and OtterWatch, an informal group of otter enthusiasts and naturalists.
Some 20 people were involved in the re-introduction.
Here is the whole video of the nursing and re-introduction of ZooToby:
