More than 20 MRT stations, train services on three MRT lines and the Bukit Panjang LRT were disrupted at peak hour on Monday, April 25, night by a power trip at 7.53pm.
Services on the North-South and East-West Lines resumed at 8.23pm, and services on the Circle Line resumed at around 9.20pm.
The power trip was traced to a power dip at the Buona Vista power intake station.
SMRT said in a media release: "We are still investigating the cause of the power trip which led to service disruptions along SMRT's MRT lines as well as the Bukit Panjang LRT network."
"We deeply apologise for the inconvenience caused." [See below]
Affected stations included:
East-West Line: Buona Vista to Joo Koon.
North-South Line: Jurong East to Kranji.
Circle Line: Caldecott to HarbourFront (in both directions).
On the Bukit Panjang LRT, some 150 passengers were affected and were subsequently safely detrained.
Some MRT stations experienced blackouts, while the power was intermittent resulting in the lights and air-conditioning turning on and off.
Free regular bus services were made available between Joo Koon and City Hall stations, and between Kranji and Jurong East stations.
This power fault comes four days after two train breakdowns on April 21, which was two days after Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the North-South Line had achieved 100 days without any major incident and was on track to better reliability.
