A lack of Uniqlo outlets in Singapore has prompted the Japanese clothing retailer to open its biggest store in Singapore and Southeast Asia region at Orchard Central.

At the moment, there are only 24 Uniqlo outlets in Singapore.

Spanning three levels, the new store will have a total area of 2,700 sq m, making it the first global flagship store in Singapore and the South-east Asia region.

It is slated to open in the second half of this year.

In December 2015, Everything With Fries food establishment located at the ground floor of Orchard Central was among quite a number of businesses told to make way. The Uniqlo flagship store will be taking over this space.

There are currently 13 global flagship stores around the world, in places such as New York, London, Paris, Shanghai.

Other than showcasing the latest lines for women, men, kids and babies, the new flagship store will be offering the brand's most extensive range of products in Singapore besides showcasing latest lines for women, men, kids and babies.

The company's South-east Asia CEO Taku Morikawa also said in a press release that they are honoured and excited to open their first global flagship store in Singapore.

He said: "Having been a member of the local retail scene since 2009, we remain committed towards contributing to the local community and being an integral part of Singapore's growth and future."

According to the press release, the new flagship store will create more than 300 jobs.
