2015, like all other years, had its ups and downs. And since we are celebrating the ups, we must also reflect on the downs — in particular, the things in Singapore (the high-performing nation that we are) that tarnished our spotless, shiny record of being awesome, that we wish were done better.
Without further ado, Mothership.sg's list of 25 things that could've, should've been done better this year:
1. Sun Ho's public image
No new commercial music was released by her for many years already, but this still didn't help everyone heave a sigh of relief.
2. Lawyer Edwin Tong's case for Kong Hee
If he made a better case, maybe Kong Hee would have gotten 7.5 years in jail instead of eight.
3. Kevryn Lim's political career
She got the publicity but not exactly the right effect.
4. The MRT system as a whole
The worst train disruption ever happened on July 7, 2015.
5. The Workers' Party
They could have done better had it not been for Lee Kuan Yew's passing, the SG50 effect, Lee Hsien Loong's increasing likability, Tharman Shanmugaratnam's suaveness, the mounting regional instability, the government's delivery on promises such as housing and transportation and the overall ra-ra-ness in Singapore in 2015.
6. BreadTalk
BreadTalk should just let the bread do the talking and cut down on everything else. No marketing, no soya bean milk. Nothing. Just sell bread.
7. The renaming of Compass Point
1 Mall That Was Unnecessarily Renamed.
8. HDB
In tribute to all the little "imperfections" of life that are part of a Uniquely Singaporean living, and also to all of us who "serve National Service".
Not sure what we're talking about? Read this and this.
9. SGH
The hospital deserves special mention for its handling of the Hepatitis C outbreak in its Renal unit.
10. Lee Kuan Yew
Ok, we're kidding. He already did his best. This is actually a tribute to his accomplishments.
11. ACS (Barker Road)
Because of how they raise funds, and also because this:
If you don't get the problem with this, you never will.
12. The $port$ Hub
It is as expen$ive as it look$. And time will tell if they will ever get their pitch right.
And filling up their schedule.
13. Joseph Schooling
He only broke six records and didn't swim his personal bests during the SEA Games.
Oh, and he also only just won a gold at the Asian Games.
He should go into track and field next. And maybe play football. And also ace gymnastics.
Ok, just ribbing him. Joseph is already the best. In swimming, that is.
14. NTUC's handling of the hawker stall allocation
Young man wants to sell fishball noodles but has to jump through hoops to do it.
15. Scoot
Being a budget carrier doesn't entitle them to force passengers to camp at the airport overnight after a nearly-24-hour delay.
(This coming on the back of another delay in Hong Kong, too, by the way.)
Not to mention their absolutely stellar handling of the situation.
16. The chio NDP spectator who stole the show
Why should she have done better? She should've been a Singapore citizen!
17. PJ Wong
He should have tried harder if he really so badly wanted to get tasered.
Thankfully, the Internet had better sense than to back him up.
18. Those SCDF fellas who trashed their bunks

Tsk tsk.
If they were really metal, they should have set the bunk on fire. And then put it out. To prove that they are really SCDF material.
19. Workers' Party Daniel Goh accusers
A half-assed poison pen letter by some anonymous rat resulted in equally half-assed stories by the mainstream media.
20. Bull on Coney Island
Should have reproduced asexually.
OK, KIDDING.
21. Hipsters of Laneway
Fail.
22. Lawrence Khong
Not much controversy from this Singaporean magician in 2015. Looking to more society-dividing, fractious outbursts from this illusionist in 2016.
23. Python vs Cobra
This cobra should have won.
24. Haze should have done better
2015's haze merely forced a grand total of ONE day of school closure.
Why not three? Or four?
25. Reserved seats
These seats have caused more societal disagreement in Singapore than religion and politics combined.
