This beautifully surreal 5-minute time-lapse video of S'pore deserves to be watched by all S'poreans

Why aren't we funding more of this type of videos?

You might have seen your fair share of time-lapse videos about Singapore, for example, here, here and here.

But you need to drop whatever you are doing right now and watch the following 5-minute time-lapse video that will alter the way you perceive Singapore from now on.

The video, called A Tiny Modernity, is shot by Marklin Ang and accompanied by Hans Zimmer's music, Time -- a remarkable testament to the quality one can put together given that it was shot on weekends.

This montage of various places in Singapore seen through a time warp lens with over-saturated hues shows the city-state exactly as what it is: One moment futuristic sci-fi, another moment hustle-bustle with a hint of nature, but all the while displaying an inclination of tipping the balance towards dystopia.

This is the YouTube description of the video:

Singapore is a rather small country. In fact, it is just a insignificant tiny red dot on the map. Despite this, Singapore has four major races living harmoniously in this tiny city-state, and is a well developed country.

Having just celebrated its 49th birthday, Singapore has come a long way and developed drastically. Tall skyscrapers, high-rise buildings, and everything modern can be found in this “Lion City”. Despite its modernity, Singapore has preserved its cultures and heartlands accordingly, resulting in a healthy blend of nostalgia and anticipation.

A Tiny Modernity is a personal timelapse project that I have worked on since March 2014. Given the nature of my job, I had mostly only weekends to shoot, hence it took awhile for me to produce this clip.

Currently, the video has only clocked 30,000 views in two months, since it was published on Oct. 15, 2014.

However, its impact has been immense on those who have watched it.

The comments on the YouTube page have been more than encouraging:

Question: Why aren't we funding more of these kinds of videos instead of the sappy over-saccharine kinds we see every National Day?
