Every once in a while, someone attempts to harness the power of social media for good:

And sometimes, it might just work.

16,000 retweets in two days

On May 16, a tweet from user @_ruruteru asking the rest of Twitter for a favour went viral with more than 16,000 retweets in two days:

@_ruruteru was requesting other Twitter users to patronise a Japanese fusion cafe in Singapore, as the owner was sad that no one was visiting.

Unfortunately, the account has since been privatised, but here's a screenshot of of the tweet:

In the same thread, we find out that the owner, a middle-aged woman, had opened the cafe for her daughter:

The same user (as far as we could tell) then put up the same message on Facebook, where it now has over 900 shares:

The request is for other people to take photos or leave feedback on the cafe's page.

Most of the comments on the post were people tagging their friends to visit the cafe, even saying that they should "support auntie":

Menu

The Japanese fusion establishment, called Washoku Cafe, is located in Potong Pasir.

It serves a variety of Japanese fusion food, such as pizza, pasta, and baked rice, all around S$9 to S$14.

Here's the full menu:

Turnaround of business, hopefully

Since the tweet, the cafe's Facebook page saw an influx of 35 reviews, with many promising to try it out:

There were even people who actually visited the cafe because of the tweet and Facebook post:

We're not sure how the food actually tastes like, but it should be worth a try.
