If you signed up for an NS50 PAssion card via text, you're safe — the number is legit

But be sure to check against official sources online first. You might not be so lucky the next time.

If you've served National Service and recently received a text sounding something like the following:

For those guys who had served NS and want to get your NS50 Commemorative Passion Card, please SMS to 72372 and type "NS50PA(space) I/C No."

Eg: NS50PA S1234567Z

You will get a $50 stored value in the card send to you.

Know that the number you texted with your IC number, even if it isn't detailed anywhere in official People's Association (PA) correspondence, is a safe and legitimate one run by them directly.

We've been informed by spokespersons at PA, who issue the PAssion card, that the registration procedure detailed in the text message is the correct method for eligible NSMen to apply for a commemorative NS50 card, which is part of a pack that is being sent by mail to all NSMen in stages this year.

That said, there is one detail that's wrong in that message — the card does not come with any stored value, and this is a detail pointed out on their official website with information about it:

As well as in a Facebook post put out by them:

But hey, even if you did think you were signing up for a free $50 PAssion card, at least take comfort in the fact that your IC and mobile numbers have not been farmed by a scammer.

Although you might not be so lucky next time, so do be careful and always check the veracity of texts like these with an official source before responding to them.
