A child who was having a stroll at Ang Mo Kio-Bishan Park ended up having a fishing hook caught in her right cheek and required emergency surgery to get it removed.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 28, at around 7.30pm.

This is according to a Facebook post by the girl's mother:

The post said three young boys, aged between 12 and 13 years old, were playing with a fishing rod with a hook, line and sinker at the bridge located near McDonald's in the park.

The hook got caught on the child's cheek when she paused momentarily during her stroll.

A pair of passers-by, a man and a woman, stopped to assist the parents, who were trying to break the line, by shining their phones' torch lights over the child's face.

The child's parents had a hard time biting off the nylon line but managed to do so in the end.

They then rushed to Mount Alvernia Hospital.

However, the doctor on duty said that the child will be traumatised if surgery was performed on local anesthesia, but he was unable to perform surgery under sedation as the hospital did not have an available operation theatre, as well as a lack of a bed to ward her.

The nurse advised the family to go to KK Women's and Children's Hospital instead.

The mother said in her post she is appealing for information on the three boys to advise them about the dangers of playing with a fishing rod at an area with heavy footfall.
