On March 27, Kopitiam at the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market allegedly tried to pull a fast one by charging S$7.50 for three cans of Pokka Oolong Tea when it should have only cost S$5.40.
After a series of back and forth between the two cashiers and the customer, a refund of S$2.10 was given.
Mothership.sg reached out to Kopitiam for clarification.
A Kopitiam spokesperson informed us that the correct selling price of canned Pokka Oolong Tea is indeed S$1.80 and not S$2.50 per can.
They also said the cashiers in question are new hires who were misinformed about the selling price of canned Pokka Oolong Tea, a product which was only introduced at the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market last week.
Since its launch at the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market, a total of 12 cans of Pokka Oolong Tea were sold.
Kopitiam also advised customers who purchased canned Pokka Oolong Tea at the Festival Market's Drinks Stall last week at S$2.50 to seek a refund.
The spokesperson also informed us that the cashiers have been counselled and will be briefed on the selling prices of all drinks.
Kopitiam added that they would like to apologise to the affected customer and reassure customers that Kopitiam food and drinks are "always kept competitively and reasonably priced".
As always, we would like to remind readers to be vigilant when paying for things.
