If you don't know already, your passport is pretty strong.

According to Henley and Partner's Visa Restriction Index for 2017, Singapore ranks 4th globally in terms of visa-free access, climbing up one spot from 2017 to its highest ranking on the index in 10 years.

Currently, Singaporeans can go to 173 countries and territories without a need for a visa.

Earlier this year, it is reported that our passport is ranked 2nd in the world, according to the World Passport Index.

Wait, you say, isn't this the same thing as the Visa Restriction Index? Why are we 4th when the other says we're 2nd?

Well, it's a case of same same but different -  we rank 2nd overall on the World Passport Index, which measures passport strength in terms of 199 United Nations member countries and territories.

On the other hand, we are ranked 4th on Henley and Partner's list, which contains 219 countries and territories, 20 more than the World Passport Index.

The Visa Restriction Index has been updated every year since 2006, and it is done in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest database of travel information.

In comparison with our neighbours, Malaysia ranks 2nd regionally and 13th overall, having dropped one place since 2016 with visa-free access to 164 countries. Brunei is not too far behind, coming in 3rd with 151 countries.
