New infrastructure to make life easier for Singaporeans are in the works.

This is to make it possible one day for residents to walk, jog or cycle from Lower Peirce Reservoir to Gardens By The Bay and the Central Business District.

This route follows the path of the Kallang River, which is Singapore’s longest natural river.

As part of the river's rejuvenation, the Urban Redevelopment Authority is looking into building a cycling bridge that spirals over and across the Pan-Island Expressway:

This is to make it more convenient for cyclists and joggers to cross the 16-lane PIE. They currently have to use an overhead bridge.

The 10km Kallang River originates from Lower Peirce Reservoir and passes through many housing and industrial areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh, Bendemeer and Kallang Bahru, before merging into the Kallang Basin.

There are now about 800,000 people living within 2km of Kallang River.

In the next 20 years, there is potential to inject around another 100,000 dwelling units in the area.

The URA also hopes to build underpasses across Kallang Bahru Road and Upper Boon Keng Road so that people using the park connector will not need to navigate a traffic crossing.

The agency's ideas for improvements are on display at the URA Centre in Maxwell Road, in the A River Runs Through It exhibition.

It was launched on March 29 and will run until May 2.

The URA hopes to get public feedback through the free exhibition, which is open from 9am to 6pm on weekdays.

You can provide feedback via this survey that allows you to vote for the building of this spiral bridge among other amenities you would like to see built first.
