After all the hoo-ha over blue ticks (which we have gotten used to), WhatsApp is now reportedly testing out a new feature on their platform: The ability to revoke sent messages, as long as it has not been read.
The feature has been spotted as early as mid-December 2016 on Twitter where the latest updates on WhatsApp are monitored and disseminated:

WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.17.1.869: it is possible to revoke messages! pic.twitter.com/Ncj22txxcG
How it works: Both users (i.e. the sender and receiver) will simply get a line stating "Sender revoked the message", which will replace the contents of the message.
This means, of course, that the receiver will still be aware that a message has been sent before being taken back -- leaving the possibility that particularly insistent boyfriends/ girlfriends/ third parties/ significant others might still dig the information out of you, anyway.
This feature is currently in its beta stages with no confirmed date of release, so hold those hasty fingers for now.
