The police shared that on Feb 16 and 17, two individuals were arrested after alleged misuses of boarding passes at the transit area of Changi Airport.

One of the accused did so to send off his relatives while the other sought to make a fraudulent GST claim in the area.

The police shared that since Jan 2017, 10 people have been arrested for the misuse of boarding passes. 28 arrests were made for the same offence in 2016.

In September last year, two people were suspected to have misused their boarding passes to enter the transit area to buy the newly-released iPhone 7. They were subsequently arrested.

The police said that it would like to "remind all passengers that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places. Those who misuse their boarding passes to enter the transit areas, with no intention to proceed to their next destinations, are liable for an offence under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act. Offenders may be prosecuted in Court and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 2 years or to both."
