One of the Botanic Gardens' large Tembusu trees collapsed at around 4.30pm this afternoon (Feb. 11). The incident has resulted in one death and four casualties.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) informed the public that five casualties, including two children, were conveyed to the National University Hospital (NUH).
Not that Tembusu tree
The fallen Tembusu tree, located near the Gardens' Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage (SFSS), should not be confused with the Gardens' famous heritage tree that is featured on the Singapore five dollar note.
The more than 200-year-old tree is located near the Tanglin entrance, and has been fenced off from the public since 2013.
All programmes at Botanic Gardens tomorrow are cancelled.
A concert organised by the High Commission of Canada was scheduled to take place at the SFSS at 5.00pm.
However, due to incident, the concert, along with other events scheduled for Feb. 12 at the Gardens have been cancelled.

ST reported that the tree was about 40m tall and with a girth of 6.5m.
Eye witness, Jonathan Ang, was reported by CNA saying that the whole incident happened within about five seconds, and that a "cracking sound" like "thunder" was heard when it happened.
