SPRING Singapore announced earlier today (Jan. 6) that users of Electrolux gas cooker hub models EGT9637CKP, EGT7637EGP, EGT7637CKP and EGT7627CKP should stop using them as there were reports of small explosions when the hobs were used.

SPRING also shared that "a user was scalded as a result."

Since news of this broke, a netizen by the name of Sam San has come forth to say that he was scalded on the left arm when he used the EGT9637CKP model from Electrolux.

Mothership.sg reached out to Mr San who shared that he purchased the hob in August 2015. According to him, the hob was problematic with "small explosions" since the beginning and subsequently had problems with the ignition.

He shared that Electrolux had sent people to fix the hob. However, "soon after" the repair an explosion occurred while he was using a pressure cooker on the hob causing the pressure cooker to "jump up". Hot steam that escaped from the displaced pressure cooker lid scalded his left arm.

Mr San shared that when he next approached Electrolux via email, he was told his hob was no longer under warranty and Electrolux told him that it would cost $400 for replacement parts to repair the hob. This was despite Mr San raising safety concerns over the explosions. When he asked why the problems with the hob continued after the first repair, he said the Electrolux customer service officer did not offer any answers.

According to Mr San, he reported this incident to Spring Singapore this morning (Jan. 6). He has declined to pay $400 for replacement parts and the hob remains unused in his home. He added that his wife was traumatised and no longer touches the stove.

He said Electrolux has not contacted him since offering to repair his hob for $400.'
