Nurse clinician Rujia Binte Ali Shahul Hameed has a flair for languages. She can speak Mandarin and various dialects, especially Hokkien.

As Nurse Clinician from the Department of Continuing and Community Care, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, she goes to patients' homes to treat them in their own environment.

There are practical differences between community-based and hospital-based nursing.

She said recently in Tuesday Report: The Nursing Story [Toggle video link], which aired on Channel 8:

“Going into patients’ homes lets me understand more about their conditions and helps me care for them. The main difference is that when you give advice in their homes, they may not listen, whereas patients tend to be a little more obedient when in the hospital.”
