Michelin star chef chooses our chicken rice over "tepid" meals at Michelin-starred restaurants

If this dude can make Gordon Ramsay cry, his taste won't go wrong one.

If you are not a foodie, you may not have heard of Chef Marco Pierre White.

But you will know about him soon.

First, he is the teacher of Gordon Ramsay.

Yes, the Gordon Ramsay.

As the strict and foul-mouthed Ramsay's mentor, White had even made him break down into tears.

When asked, he quite infamously said:

Second, he is a fan of Singaporean food, highlighting the chicken rice at Purvis Street as an example.

In an interview with TODAY yesterday (Dec. 2), he said,

"I eat better at simpler restaurants than I do at Michelin-starred restaurants.

A lot of Michelin-starred restaurants don't give me food I want to eat.

And I am dictated to, I am told what I am having and the food is tepid.

I think you eat very well in Singapore, and I know people say that Singapore is the most expensive city on earth.

I go to Purvis street and I have my chicken rice.

$8 with my barley water. Delicious!"

White is currently in town for a 15-day pop-up event known as the Masterchef Dining and Bar, which will feature the menus of Masterchef personalities.

Netizens were obviously delighted at his positive nod at our local dish.

Though there were some of us who argued whether $8 was ridiculously expensive for the dish.

And it's not just chicken rice - White has a soft spot for the Cantonese restaurant Eat First at Siglap, and here are a few photos of proof:

While we're swimming in pride, perhaps we probably should do our part to introduce him to other dishes in Singapore,  that are better worthy of a star.
