Singapore will start collecting iris scans every time a passport or NRIC is applied or renewed from Jan. 1, 2017 onwards.
This affects all Singaporeans and PRs.
This is to boost photographs and fingerprints verification methods already in use by the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
Sounds good for the ICA?
For the rest of us, well, reactions varied, when the news was shared on Channel NewsAsia Facebook page on Dec. 28.
There were practical concerns, such as possible admin fee adjustments:
