DFS Changi allowing unlimited purchase of selected duty-free wines

They are most probably clearing stock.

According to Spirited Singapore, DFS Group (DFS) is allowing travellers going through Changi Airport to buy unlimited selected bottles of wine at duty-free prices.

This new arrangement has been ongoing since November 2016, according to the Dec. 22, 2016, piece:

Last month, however, DFS announced that it will be absorbing all duty and taxes on selected bottles of wine so that travellers arriving in Singapore will have the chance to purchase an unlimited amount of wine from a selected collection at duty-free prices. This is on top of the Singapore Custom’s duty-free allowance of either one litre of spirits, one litre of wine, one litre of beer; or two litres of wine, one litre of beer; or two litres of beer, one litre of wine.

In fact, passengers arriving from Malaysia, those who have been away from Singapore for less than 48 hours, as well as travelers who have already maximised their duty free allowance before arriving – who previously could not buy under previous Customs guidelines – are now all legible to purchase from this specific duty-paid wine collection. DFS even offers free home delivery to those who spend a minimum of S$300 from that selection.

This means that travellers who were previously barred from buying excessive amounts of alcohol under Customs guidelines are suddenly allowed to.

This unlimited ruling has naturally upset alcohol retailers all over Singapore, with one labelling it "a case of unfair competition".

This is so as buyers of unlimited wine can now purchase large quantities on behalf of others and even have free home delivery as long as purchases exceed S$300.

Not mentioned in the article though, is how and why long-standing rules governing duty-free allowance can be bent so suddenly.

No mention was also made as to how long this offer will last.

DFS has also been trying to sweeten the deal further, as those who purchase a minimum of S$150 worth of duty-paid wine from their collection will receive two pairs of return ferry tickets to Batam worth S$95 from now until end-January 2017.
