Canadian claims Halal sign is proof of division in S'pore, S'poreans politely disagree

Also Halal is not the same as Muslim.

We promise this is a feel good story, you just have to make it past the initial layer of bigotry.

Tarek Fatah is a columnist for the Canadian newspaper Toronto Sun.

On Dec. 6, he posted this tweet:

Basically claiming that a Halal only microwave was proof of Muslims "taking over".

This spurred some rallying cries from some of his Twitter followers.

Yes that's right, apparently we are a communist state. And you know he's right because he calls himself Plain Truth.

Interestingly, none of the outraged were apparently from Singapore.

Rebuttal

Silly Misshope, trying to use rational explanations against them.

Just Singaporeans being Singaporean.

Media academic Cherian George once noted in a commentary about Singapore's brand of secularism, where Singapore treats all religions with respect, but keeps them at arm's length from the state.

For instance, there are accommodations made here and there, where traditional Chinese are allowed to burn their offerings on the pavements despite strict anti-pollution rules, and eagle-eyed traffic police look the other way when cars are parked illegally outside churches on Sundays and mosques on Fridays.

One for all, and all for one.
