Heavy rains caused flash floods in several areas in Singapore on Saturday, Dec. 24 evening.
Vehicles stalled along Paya Lebar and Eunos area resulting in traffic jams, while Upper Thomson became waterlogged as a result of massive MRT construction works there (photo above and photos below).
The National Environment Agency issued a weather alert at 5pm, as thundery showers over many areas of Singapore were registered.
And instead of wondering why is Singapore flooded whenever it pours these days, the public can get more information on PUB’s website about where flood prone areas lie.
According to PUB’s definition, flood prone areas are those areas which are low-lying, with a history of flooding.
Hotspots, on the other hand, are areas which are not low-lying but had experienced flash floods.
PUB’s achievement over the years has been the reduction of flood prone areas in Singapore from about 3,200 hectares in the 1970s to 30.5 hectares today, as there are and have been numerous ongoing drainage improvement works.
