9 things S'pore families do in WhatsApp chats that will make you want to delete WhatsApp

Can I secretly remove myself from the Whatsapp Group?

We love our families, and sometimes the best way to keep connected is through a WhatsApp group.

However, everyone will come to the realisation that the only thing you have in common with them is the same surname, but not the same humour.

So here are 9 things that Singapore families do in WhatsApp chats that will make you want to secretly remove them or yourself.

1. Send "Good Morning" messages.

It's not just a text message saying good morning -- some family members will go the "extra mile" and use awkward low-quality stock photos, complete with cheesy fonts.

If they're feeling particularly creative that day, get ready for 2006 Blingee-esque gifs:

2. Forward warning messages about anything remotely dangerous.

These warnings range from scams, virus attacks, to health advisories, basically telling us to be wary of various dangers of the world.

At this point, we cannot help but wonder whether everything out there is trying to kill us or our devices.

Sisters and brothers in the group chat,

if you happened to receive an image titled "Obama has died" , please do not open the image, and delete it right away, right now it is confirmed that  it is the work of advanced hacker teens from Philippines, which will attack all computers and phones belonging to the Chinese/people from China. It will make your phone lose all functions, please share to all your individual groups and inform each other.

Someone has already fell for it!

Welp, better play safe and share, amirite.

3. Send motivational and inspirational messages to brighten each one's day.

Because Adam Khoo's workshops alone won't help. #inspired

4. Share food photos that would not have appeared on Instagram.

Because everybody and their grandmothers need to know what you're eating.

And why you have lost weight.

5. Crack terrible, clichéd jokes

Sometimes, some jokes are only funny to the older folks, or they're just plain terrible.

In cases like these, just spam the laughing emoji, it won't go wrong. ? ? ?.

Unless they become encouragement for our family members to get to the next level jokes, like this girl and her godma:

Punching the wall in 3, 2, 1 ...

6. Share the latest shopping deals and offers

In the spirit of "don't say bojio",  the chat gets flooded with all sorts of offers and shopping deals your relatives send over.

You probably have it worse if you have WhatsApp set to automatically downloading media for you: just imagine your phone inundated by your mum's multiple shopping site screenshots.

7. Forward some viral video they find funny -- or serious.

A step up from forwarding warning messages, your family probably love to send these videos as graphic proof that their worries are unfounded.

For instance, this video of chemicals used to ripen bananas :

On most days however, they are likely to forward (occasionally) hilarious videos.

8. A conversation between two members of the family that became spam

Trying to catch up with all the messages can be quite a chore.

When you have like, a few hundred unread messages, who can blame you for going MIA when there is just so much to plough through?

9. Create separate WhatsApp group chats for different purposes

While birthday surprises are a common reason to split the group up into another chat, there's always a possibility of some drama going on, with juicy gossip family members don't want a certain person to know.

And if this article is terribly unfunny, please share it on your WhatsApp group.
