2 Yishun residents used Uber to move house, somehow ended up at a police station in Ubi

20km for 20 cents.

This is a doozy of a story, so let's get straight into it.

Shin Min published a story about a woman's unfortunate adventure.

Two ladies who lived in Yishun Ring Road were moving house to block 512, also in Yishun.

The two, one of whom goes by the name Ms Sun, decided to use Uber, thanks to their promotion which will shave $5 from their fares.

On the night of the move, they took 2 Uber trips.

The first was at 10pm, a trip which cost them S$0.50, after the discount of course.

That trip went swimmingly, and the 2 roommates paid in cash coin (a detail which will become very important later).

The second ride also went smoothly, until the end of the trip.

The driver showed them the fare, which was S$5.20 — lacking the discount they expected to additionally receive.

This sent the two young women into panic mode, as they did not have cash or credit on them.

Berserk mode engaged

After failing to contact Uber, or determine the issue with their app, the Uber driver promptly took action.

He drove them to a police station... in Ubi.

For reference, this is what the trip would have looked like.

The entire trip took around 20km, according to the two women.

The police tried to get them to settle things amicably, and while there seemed to be no further action taken by the Uber driver, he refused to send them back to Yishun.

Before leaving his passengers with five bags of luggage stranded in Ubi, this man of the year found a way to end this absurdist car ride with the most dignified quote ever.

"I won't take the $0.20 fare."
